In1992,whilepresentingattheWorldFuturesStudiesFederationcourseonInternationalDevelopment,Ishiftedmylecturefromthetypicalrehearsedpresentationonfactorsexplainingmaldevelopmenttoarealtimeunpacking/deconstructionoftransportationfutures.AsI,we,workedthroughtheanalysis,alternativesorganicallyemerged.Thefourlevelswere:first,theproblemorthelitany-congestionandpollution.Secondthecauses:toomanycarsanddesireformorecars,risingincomes,traditionalinfrastructurethatwasnotcarflowfriendly,amongotherfactors.Third,theBigCityoutlook,westernization,andthe“LosAngelization“oftheplanet.Andfourth,Westisbestwithcarsasfreedom,asindividuality.Weunderstoodthatthegovernmentwouldtakeatechnicalapproachofcreatingflyoversandnotthedeeperrequiredtorethinkcentre-peripheryrelations-todecentralize-toreimagineBangkokasawalkableandgreencity.ThisledtoadiscussiononnotjustinfrastructureredesignbutstoriesaroundruralareasandthesymbolofthecarasasymbolofWesternpower.CLAshiftedthediscussionfromconventionalstrategiesontransporttowardalternativefuturesofmobility,identity,andsustainability.Afterafewmoreattemptsatpresentingoncommunication,ondisability,onwaysknowingthemethodwasborn.Theoretically,ofcourse,Iwasstandingontheworksofthegreats:P.R.Sarkar,JohanGaltung,WilliamIrwinThompson,JosephCampbellandfrominsightsfromprofessorsandcolleaguessuchasJamesDator,MichaelShapiro,andRichardSlaughter.
IntheCLAReaderpublishedin2004,wecompiledarticlesonthemethodtogainacademicrespectability.Doctoralstudentswouldemailmeandsay,theywantedtowritetheirthesisonCLAbuttheirprofessorsweresuspicious.By2015,whenCLA2.0wasreleased,wehaddocumentedhundredsofadditionalcasestudies.Professorwerenolongersuspicious,indeed,manyenthusiastic.Themethodbyth
